Overview
Rainforest Pay is a payments-as-a-service provider purpose-built for vertical SaaS platforms to seamlessly embed payment processing for their merchants. Founded in 2022 by Joshua Silver (formerly of Patientco/Waystar), Rainforest enables platforms to accept card, ACH, Apple Pay, and card-present payments with fully embedded merchant onboarding, compliance, and risk management—eliminating the operational and regulatory burdens of becoming a payment facilitator. Unlike competitors such as Stripe Connect and Adyen Platforms (which were retrofitted for platforms after being built for merchants), Rainforest's entire technology stack, service model, and roadmap are designed exclusively for vertical SaaS companies. The platform offers low-code/no-code embeddable components for payments, reporting, chargeback management, and merchant onboarding, allowing platforms to launch embedded payments in days or weeks rather than months. Rainforest handles all regulatory compliance, merchant KYC, fraud monitoring, and risk management through a sponsored banking relationship with First Citizens Bank. Key differentiators include fully white-labeled integrations, transparent consumption-based pricing with no monthly fees, true merchant data portability, and a dedicated platform experience team. As of September 2025, Rainforest processes billions in annual volume for nearly 100 clients serving thousands of merchants across healthcare, nonprofits, home services, youth sports, professional services, education, and local government verticals.
