Overview
Gusto Embedded is the API-and-SDK product from Gusto that lets vertical SaaS platforms, banks, and software vendors offer full-service US payroll to their SMB end-customers under their own brand. Launched in 2022, the product packages Gusto's 10+ years of payroll, tax, and benefits infrastructure into modular pieces: a REST API, pre-built Flows (configurable white-label UI), and a React SDK. Partners choose their integration depth — from API-only for fully custom UX, to drop-in Flows for fastest time to market, to a hybrid model. Gusto Embedded handles all payroll compliance on behalf of the partner: federal, state, and local tax filing across 11,000+ jurisdictions in all 50 US states; ACH money movement and W-2/1099 generation; benefits administration integration; and worker onboarding. Platform partners do not require payroll licenses of their own; the regulated activity is performed under Gusto's licenses. Implementations typically span 3–6 months and include a commercial pre-approval step plus a security review (VISO Trust). Notable customers include Vagaro, Squire, Chase Payment Solutions, U.S. Bank, and SpotOn. Gusto parent company was founded in 2011 in San Francisco by Joshua Reeves, Edward Kim, and Tomer London. As of 2026, Gusto serves 300,000+ SMBs directly, processes 70M+ API calls per month for Embedded partners, has lifetime payroll processed over $1T, and reported $1B+ in revenue. The most recent valuation was $9.3B via a June 2025 tender offer; prior Series E in 2021 valued the company at $9.5B. The commercial model is revenue share, estimated to allocate ~1/3 of partner payroll revenue to Gusto.
